Fraunhofer Center Maryland (FCMD) is a
not-for-profit, applied research and technology transfer business
unit of Fraunhofer USA Inc. (Fraunhofer), a $21.0 million
organization with 120 employees. Fraunhofer performs applied
research under contract to government and industry with customers
such as federal and state governments, multinational corporations
as well as small to medium-sized companies. Fraunhofer's research
benefits society in many ways.
Fraunhofer is a diversified company serving a wide range of
customers in government and private sectors since 1994. Our
customers include the DOD, NASA, US Army, National Science
Foundation, State Governments, Universities, and commercial
clients. Headquartered in Detroit Michigan, Fraunhofer has 5
research centers located in the continental US close to their
respective partner University.
FCMD, one of 5 Fraunhofer USA research centers, was founded in
1997, is located in College Park, MD and is affiliated with the
University of Maryland at College Park, Md. FCMD was established
in 1997 to advance the state-of-the-practice in software
development and acquisition by conducting and applying
state-of-the-art research.. FCMD's staff consists of 21 staff
members, 9 of which hold Phd's, including 4 Computer Science
faculty from the University of Maryland System. FCMD's expertise

Area Capabilities
FCMD has 9 years of demonstrated success in
providing Program Management Services, Business Process
Reengineering Services, Training and Education Services, Knowledge
Management Services and Test & Evaluation Services to both
Federal Government and Industry clients. FCMD has provided subject
matter expert Knowedge Management, Business Process Reengineering
and Project Management Services to the Army Future Combat Systems
since its Concept Technology Demonstrator (CTD) phase.
FCMD has provided Business Process Reengineering, Knowledge
Management Services, Training Services and Project Management
Services to varous NASA Centers and NASA Headquarters since 1997.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for Acquisition,
Technology and Logistics (AT&L) has also been a long time
customer of FCMD which provided Test and Evaluation Services,
Knowledge Management Services and Program Management Services in
the concept definition and development of the OSD Best Practices
Clearinghouse for Acquisition.
FCMD has extensive knowledge and experience in the application
of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Software Capability
Maturity Model (CMM) and Capability Maturity Model Integrated
(CMMI), particularly for small and medium sized organizations.
FCMD has provided Business Process Reengineering Services to
tailor the CMM and CMMI to meet the goals and objectives of a
number of Government and industry clients and has provided
Training and Education Services to Government and Industry clients
in the applicaiton of the SEI CMMI. FCMD will bring this
experience as well as its substantial research capability to meet
the current and future needs of the Army ITES-2S
users.

values, practice ontology and color-coding scheme for describing
practice effectiveness (recommendation level) and confidence
(level of evidence)
